Any Excuse Will Do
Any excuse will do when justifying something you are doing wrong. Owning your actions is a lost art. Excuses are the new fashion trend to wear for all to see. Excuses are lies we tell ourselves to avoid dealing with unpleasant truths. The other guy is doing something so how is it different then what I am doing? Since they are doing it, it must be ok for me to do what I am doing.
“I do searches because I am looking for something. I just happen to belong to 20 programs that send 200 searches a day and I haven’t found what I was looking for but if I keep searching I will eventually find what I was searching for. But of course the advertisers who pay for the advertising on those search engines doesn’t mind giving me the money they spend it for me to look at their pages anyways. The owner of the PTR site is not going to pay me unless I do those searches. But since I am looking for something I am not doing anything wrong.”
“The members aren’t interested in the same old Paid to Promote ads and the Paid to Promote promoter only wants a click. It is ok to open 20 links in your browser at one time because no one wants to see the same ad over and over again even though the advertisers on that page are paying that members who only wants a click and making money for that program who is selling the PTP ads to that promoter. It is ok that the real advertisers won’t touch PTR because we have tried to get real advertisers and they aren’t interested in PTR anyways so why bother to try something new and innovative? Let’s just cheat the third party advertisers and the few advertisers that are out there out of their money because no one wants to see the same old ad over and over again anyways. “
“It is ok to sell cheap ads for 1/1000th of a cent and send 1000 worthless ads a day because that is all someone will buy. I am not doing anything wrong or harming anyone. It keeps my site open. I can’t think of any other way to bring in advertisers so this has to be ok”
“It is ok to bully members in public because I pay no one will notice. I am a popular Program so I can get away with it and no one will speak out, or will they dare too.”
Wake up Folks! If we don’t start taking some responsibility for our own actions we are going to destroy the entire industry. There won’t be any more PTP for the members to earn extra from. There won’t be anymore ads to earn from. There won’t be anymore 3rd party advertisers.
To the Program Owners blaming others and making excuses:
Stop blaming your own lack of business sense and creativity on other sites. I mean come on. ” but how much worse is that than some well respected programs setting PTP ads to 10 seconds or even less so often the pages don’t even get to fully load?”
So you think it is ok that you run a 15 second timer and let your members open 20 sites at once that they will never see? The real advertiser is not the PTP promoter. They may be the only advertiser on many of these sites but not all sites depend on PTP Ads!
The 3rd party advertiser, the advertiser who is promoting their site or product in the rotator and the site owner wanting their site and page promoted are the advertiser. Without these advertisers the PTP promoter would have no page to promote.
Do we really want to continue lowering standards? Wouldn’t you all like to see real ads, decent offers for your views? Well making excuses for opening 2o browser windows at one time and supporting sites which make excuses for why they can’t get real advertisers is sure not going to do it.
It is time for all of us to take responsibility. Stop supporting sites which make excuses, stop making excuses ourselves for why we are bored with ads or clicking on 200 ads a day. Don’t click ads if you aren’t interested. Start supporting the advertisers that are paying you. Stop and take a look at the text link ads or the banner on the page or the ad in the rotator. You might see something you are interested in. You might actually find doing PTR more fun.
All PTP pages and ads are NOT the same. There are a few select programs that do send interesting ads, which do care about their members and advertisers. Support these sites. Stand up and say enough is enough. Stand up and tell them all to stop making excuses for their lack of creativity and business sense. I for one am tired of the lowering of standards. I want more from this industry. I know I do not stand alone on this.
Kim of Spare-Dollars recently posted in her forum similar feelings on some of these same issues. Kudos, Kim for speaking your mind and taking a stand. If more would just say enough is enough PTR might be more then it is.
Let’s all stop with the excuses and take responsibility for our part in all of this and see if we can make PTR what it should be not what it is perceived as. We all know what outsiders think of Paid to Read…What can we do to change their minds? First and foremost:
STOP MAKING EXCUSES!
