PTR and Free Upgrades
Are They Really FREE? Paid to Read Sites Offering Free Upgrades….
I started a thread at my forum, a month ago on sites which offer free upgrades asking if all the free upgrades were really beneficial to the members or the site.
It concerns me to see several Program Owners buying up dozens of sites and offering free upgrades to draw members in. I had wondered how beneficial it really was when they were offering 1000 free upgrades and the ads then that were going out were worthless cash or point ads.
What became more interesting was while researching for another thread at Free-Spirit which was on the topic of Sites forcing clicking many of the sites offering free upgrades are also forcing their members to click x amount of links a month to receive payment. So are these free upgrades really FREE?
Dictionary.com defines Free as:
1. free provided without, or not subject to, a charge or payment: free parking; a free sample.
2. given without consideration of a return or reward: a free offer of legal advice.
3. not subject to special regulations, restrictions, duties, etc.
4. not subject to rules, set forms, etc.
5. without cost, payment, or charge.
So if this is the case why are these sites setting up rules in their terms that state if a member does not click x amount of links a month their account will be deleted. The site is no longer FREE to join or the upgrade FREE if the member has rules and restictions imposed on them to earn from the site or to keep thier free upgrade.
In my opinion this is just another cheap shot at drawing the members into the sites and then finding ways to lower their site debt because they still have no real ads to send thier members but for the Free upgraded member ads. Which is being paid for out of thier pockets. Forcing members to click on ads to be paid is right up there with Click fraud on sites which are forcing members to search to be paid.
Many wonder who real advertisers are not advertising on Paid to Read, and why affiliate programs are turning away more and more PTR sites. Well this might be a real good reason? You think?
As an advertiser as well as a program owner I sure would not want to pay for advertising on a site who was forcing it’s members to click ads to be paid. Members tend not to pay much attention to what they are clicking on if they are forced to click a certain number of ads to earn.
Worse yet are sites telling members after requesting payout if they become inactive or put their accounts on vacation they will lose their earnings and be deleted. Were they not active to have earned their payout? Why would they need to continue to be active to be paid for what they were already active for?
You can read more on the forum of which sites are implementing these practices.
But read the terms of service. Free may not be FREE at all.
